In March 2020, as the world shut down in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, the US federal government was springing into action.
The federal government, its armed services, and state and municipal governments, focused on acquiring medical personal protective equipment (PPE). The most critical items were surgical and N95 face masks, face shields, goggles, gowns, gloves, electronic thermometers, and antibacterial hand lotions.
The US experienced an immediate and dire shortage of PPE. There were many cases of fraudulent products - for example, masks were labeled “N95,” but were not FDA certified as N95. Authorities documented numerous instances of theft - containers of PPE were stolen off trucks en route from production facilities or pirated from container ships on the open seas.
In the last week of March 2020, multiple agencies from federal and state governments and the military published urgent solicitations. Prime contractors recruited the TSX Gear team to support this mission based on our ability to solve the most difficult problems of production and logistics.
Within 10 days of receiving the solicitations, the team was able to commit to a meaningful portion of the PPE need. Within 45 days - 15 days ahead of schedule - millions of units of PPE were delivered. The US Navy, US Army, FEMA, and multiple state governments received hundreds of thousands of electronic thermometers, millions of FDA-certified N95 and surgical masks, hundreds of thousands of hazardous material suits, millions of gloves, goggles, and face shields, and tens of thousands of gallons of antibacterial liquid, with a total order value greater than $5,000,000.
All products were delivered on budget, on time, on spec, and to the correct units at dozens of locations. All products were from FDA certified facilities, and material was verified by third party quality audits.
